Aston Martin has had an exceptional start to the season. Their star driver Fernando Alonso has six podiums from the ten races this season. But their disappointing results in the last few races amidst massive upgrades by McLaren and Mercedes is a big concern for the team. Team Principle Mike Krack has spoken about how they can do better.
Mike Krack admits that Aston Martin has fallen behind in developing their car compared to their rivals. He said that the difference is not very big, but they still have a lot of work to do to catch up with the fast-paced upgrades.
“Disappointing, yes, but it’s also a reality check. It shows that we’re not where we were and other teams have passed us. We have to be honest with ourselves. We were 70 seconds behind after 70 laps and that’s the ground we have to make up,” Krack told DAZN.
Krack is adamant about recovering their position this season rather than focusing on 2024 right away. He also appreciated both of the team’s drivers, saying they deserve better cars.
“We will work hard to do that. We don’t look at 2024; we have to raise our level with this car. We really have to work hard to catch up with some cars that are ahead again. I feel sorry for the drivers because they have given their maximum, and need a better car,” he added.

Fernando Alonso believes new Pirelli tires are causing both Red Bull and Aston Martin to lose pace

Pirelli recently introduced new, stronger tires in the British GP. This introduction was made to see the gains downforce teams were starting to make and to avoid any problems further down the line. Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso has claimed that the new tires have earned a negative impact on some teams.
He says that when the new tires were introduced in Silverstone, some teams struggled more while others were happy with the current status quo. He also believes that Red Bull has taken a hit, seeing how they are working even for a pole position now.
“Checo [Perez] is struggling to be in the top 10. At Silverstone I think Max [Verstappen] was only three seconds in front of Lando [Norris in the race]. So I see things a little bit abnormal since Silverstone. I think you can feel the car a little bit different with the tyres. But as I said it is difficult to sometimes to be neutral,” said Alonso.
Alonso was proved wrong by Red Bull as they clinched a double podium at the Hungarian GP. Meanwhile, the Aston Martin duo had to settle for P9 and P10 as they struggled with the new tire design.
