Red Bull Racing is presently unchallenged in the 2023 F1 season. The Austrian team is miles clear of its rivals as the RB-19 dominates the field. The Milton Keynes team has won both rounds of the year so far with 1-2 finishes. However, Aston Martin Team Principal, Mike Krack believes that the energy-drinks giant will face stiff competition in the latter half of the season.

Krack believes that the pace advantage of Red Bull will go away over the course of the 23-race F1 calendar. The Aston Martin boss said, “The season is long. I don’t think Red Bull will keep the gap.” The 51-year-old highlighted the fact that both Mercedes and Ferrari are big teams that have the resources to develop their way back to title contention.

Mike Krack stated, “We still have two big teams behind us [Mercedes and Ferrari] who will do everything they can to catch them.” Interestingly, both Mercedes and Ferrari are also behind Aston Martin in the pecking order. The German advised fans to have patience over the current F1 affair as Krack believes that rivals will provide a challenge to Red Bull. The 51-year-old said, “The spectator has to be patient and keep watching Formula 1.”

Alonso has been the sole non-Red Bull on the podium so far

The Aston Martin team boss was asked about his team being the second-fastest on the grid in 2023. As Fernando Alonso snatched the final podium spot i the first two races. However, Krack took a conservative approach and mentioned the need to see the results of the third race in Melbourne. He said, “It sounds good, yes. “We’ve always said we had to confirm it in three races.”

The 51-year-old mentioned that Aston Martin would analyze the Australian GP before truly accepting the second-fastest spot on the grid. Mike Krack stated, “At the moment, I think we have to be cautious about saying we’re second. Because Melbourne is coming and then we have to check and confirm it.” However, the Germans agreed on the positive results achieved by Alonso and Lance Stroll so far. He concluded, “but clearly we’ve made a step forward in our objective.”

Thus, Mike Krack is confident that Red Bull will face more competition this season. This could also become a spanner in the works for Aston Martin, as it currently is comfortably ahead of Mercedes and Ferrari. As such, it remains to be seen how the pecking order shapes up in the latter half of 2023 when major upgrades are introduced by the big teams.
