Aston Martin had an impressive start to the 2023 season, with Fernando Alonso securing podium finishes in six out of the first eight races. However, their performance dipped significantly in the later races, resulting in only one podium finish since. The team was set for a top-three finish in the constructors’ championship but now is in a fierce battle for fourth place with McLaren. Team principal Mike Krack revealed the reasons behind their performance slump.

Aston Martin made its F1 debut in 1959, but in the 1960 season, they struggled and eventually exited Formula 1. However, they returned to the sport in 2021 by rebranding the Racing Point F1 Team. Aston Martin has yet to secure any drivers’ or constructors’ championships. The team showed excellent performance at the beginning of the season but raced a downfall in performance after introducing significant floor upgrades at the Canadian GP.

Mike Krack acknowledged that their poor performances could be attributed to being outdeveloped by other teams. He also recognized that they hadn’t implemented enough development upgrades compared to their competitors, impacting their results.

Well, it’s development, you see. some competitors have really made big, big progress, some less, and it’s quite simple. We would have liked to have seen more performance, but there is still some to come, so I’m confident that we can close the gap a little bit,” said Mike Krack, as reported by Racingnews365.com

Fernando Alonso slams F1tv directors for manipulating his team’s radio message

Fernando Alonso secured an 8th-place finish at the Japanese Grand Prix. During the race, he initially struggled with his pace and expressed his concerns over the team radio. He said, “You’ve thrown me to the lions by pitting me that early, mate, unbelievable.”

However, Fernando Alonso accused Formula 1 of manipulating his team radio. He also suggested they portrayed him as angry with his team and engineers regarding an early pit stop decision.

It’s the same, the classic thing, the classic FOM radio, completely out of context. I’m not sure exactly what other drivers can say when they are behind a car that is slower…I called for a different strategy; we stopped, we beat them, that’s the way we do it, we beat everyone on track even if the radio is the highlight,” said Fernando Alonso.
