The Aston Martin F1 team has risen in the pecking order this season. The British team is regarded as the best of the rest after the dominant Red Bulls. Fernando Alonso has managed to secure the final podium spots in the first two rounds of 2023. This led to claims by the Austrian team over the design elements of the AMR23. However, Performance Director Tom McCullough has dismissed these comments.
McCullough was recently asked about the remarks made by Christian Horner, who had referred to the AMR23 as a copy of the 2022 Red Bull car. The Aston Martin Performance Director compared such comments to nothing but insignificant noises. Tom stated, “That’s always going to happen. To be honest, it’s white noise to me.”
The 47-year-old affirmed that the British team is happy with their work so far and will continue its efforts in developing its car. He explained, “We just get on with our job, we know what we’re doing.” Moreover, McCullough was adamant that the remarks made by the reigning world champions will not affect Aston Martin. As Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll go head-to-head this season. Tom said, “We’re just trying not to let that stuff distract us.”

“Develop the hell out of this car,” Tom McCullough on the Aston Martin AMR23
McCullough confessed that Aston Martin will try to develop the AMR23 to the limit in a bid to close up the gap with Red Bull. He stated, “Our aim is to develop the hell out of this car and get as close as we can to them.” Although, the 47-year-old admitted that the Austrian team will try to progress forward as well over the course of the season. Tom continued, “But they’re not going to stand still. They have a good margin, especially over one lap with how fast their car is.”
The British engineer acknowledged the fact that Ferrari and Mercedes might soon catch up to Aston Martin. Toto Wolff has already stated plans for major upgrades for the W14. Tom said, “With Ferrari and Mercedes, it will be very hard to maintain the development rate with those teams this year, never mind Red Bull.” Although the Silverstone team will do its best to compete this year. McCullough concluded, “But, for sure, we are sat there, week in and week out, trying our damnedest.”
Thus, Aston Martin is confident with its car this season. The British team will not pay attention to the claims made by its competitors. Lawrence Stroll’s team has finally managed to bounce back after two underwhelming seasons. Subsequently, the team will give it all this year as it seeks to potentially achieve its best-ever season in Formula 1.
