“At some point every team will stop winning,” Charles Leclerc not surprised to see Mercedes’ juggernaut come to an halt

If there was one team that ruled the hybrid era in F1, it was Mercedes; managing to win every single constructor’s title since 2014, and driver’s championship from 2014 to 2020, the team became one of the most successful ones in F1. The only challengers they had were Ferrari and Red Bull, later Ferrari fell out of the game and the only danger they had to face were Red Bull, who managed to win the driver’s championship in 2021 after a cut-throat competition between the two teams.
However, with the start of the 2022 season and new regulations, the team has been struggling to cope. Until now, they have managed to score only three podiums, all of them being P3; one from Hamilton the other from Russell.

This comes largely because of the return of ground effect in the cars, making many teams unable to drive properly on straights; the porpoising (bouncing of the cars) makes it difficult for them to reach maximum pace, and hence, missing out on the positions. Mercedes seemed to get rid of the same during the Spanish Grand Prix, but it all went in vain in the Monaco GP where they did bounce again.
This drop of the team has surprised many, however, Charles Leclerc, having his prime time in Ferrari, has stated otherwise.
Leclerc keeps both a positive and negative view for the team.
The Monegasque driver stated that he’s not surprised by the fall of Mercedes, as all teams would stop winning at some point, but at the same time, he has said that Mercedes would come back stronger after their run in Barcelona, Spain.
“It’s always strange when such a dominant team is in trouble at the beginning of a season,” PlanetF1 quoted Charles
“Yes, they had a difficult start to the season but I have no doubt that they will be back very soon.”
“They took a first step forward in Barcelona and I hope they will be back soon and will compete with us for victories. It would be exciting for Formula 1 to see three teams battle it out.”
Ferrari had a similar fall during the 2020 season, who now are the championship contenders against Red Bull after their epic comeback with the new regulations.
Mercedes still are following up the two contenders on 3rd spot in the championship, having 134 points in their bag.
