Audi, the German automobile giant, has recently admitted that they have not held any concrete discussion with Mick Schumacher regarding a seat on the team in 2026. Its CEO, Markus Dushman, has made it known that there are no guarantees regarding Schumacher as far as the 2026 F1 season is concerned.
The Volkswagon group will join the F1 grid in 2026 with the Sauber group. The global brand has previously talked about the potential of having a German driver on the team, and as per the rumor mill, it is believed that Mick Schumacher is on top of their list.
However, despite the hype, Audi has somewhat played down the possibility and while talking about the same, Dushman said, “We are currently talking to many decision-makers, drivers, team managers. There have been no concrete discussions with Mick Schumacher regarding a commitment.”
“Of course, German drivers interest us as much as they interest the top of the parent company, but that is not a requirement for us.” Looking at the comments, one thing that can be said for certain is that they are keeping all their cards very close to their chest. Moreover, it is totally understandable as 2026 is quite a few years away.

Audi wants to make its mark in F1
Audi has always been seen as a motorsports giant that has always succeeded in whatever category of racing they have felt like plunging into. When it comes to F1, the goal is going to remain the same for the team. They want to show their mettle at the pinnacle of motor racing and are doing everything in order to achieve their goals.
There are not coming into F1 just to make the numbers, they want to win. While shedding light on Audi’s F1 goals, Dushman said, “We are not going into Formula 1 on a whim, we want to show what we can do. We have done everything possible to win in all the championships we have participated in. So far, we have always succeeded. The Olympic idea of just wanting to be there is not enough for us.”
Audi means serious business when it makes it into F1 in the year 2026. Saying positive about a competition that someone is about to enter is always good for morale. However, F1 is at a whole different level compared to the other racing categories. Many have come tried their hand and failed miserably.
Moreover, considering how close the F1 grid is getting year after year, it would be a tough task for Audi to become a nuisance for the top dogs of the sport. Considering how the sport has changed significantly in recent years, would Audi be able to turn up the heat straightaway when they arrive in F1 in 2026?
