Carlos Sainz, the Ferrari F1 driver, was running well in the points at the Australian GP, but his outing took a turn for the worst. The FIA stewards imposed a five-second penalty on him for causing a collision with Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso. The incident at the event has not sat well with the Spaniard, and he is extremely disappointed by it.

Carlos Sainz was even heard on the radio indicating that his five-second penalty was an absolute joke. While talking about his predicament, Sainz said in a post-race interview: “I’m not gonna comment on it until I go to stewards [and] they revert this penalty, because it’s the biggest disgrace of the sport that I’ve seen in many, many years. Whatever I’m gonna say now, I prefer not to say, so I prefer to go to the stewards and then come back. It’s just that I need to come here first.”

In another interview, he added: “It’s too unfair and I don’t feel well to speak. I just needed to come to the TV pen because if I didn’t come, they’d put [give] me another penalty. Sorry, I prefer not to talk. I’ll come back later after going to the stewards.” Looking at the reaction of Carlos Sainz, it is pretty evident that he is very much distraught with his outing at Albert Park, especially considering, he was running in the upper half of the standings for most of the Australian GP.

The Ferrari F1 team has started the 2023 season on the back foot compared to teams like Aston Martin, Mercedes, and the mighty Red Bull F1 team. After three races in the current campaign, the Maranello-based team has fallen off the pace of the front runners are now in a difficult position in the Championship battle.

As things stand, Ferrari is currently on 26 points in the Constructors standings and has an uphill battle heading into the upcoming races of the 2023 campaign. While the Italian team is stuck on 26 points, Mercedes, Aston Martin, and Red Bull have managed to put in a decent gap and currently are on 56, 65, and, 123 points, respectively, in the Constructors Championship.

Considering the state of things at the Ferrari F1 team, do you think Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz could bring the team’s season back on track? Carlos Sainz is currently on 20 points, whereas the team’s Monegasque driver has only managed 6 points in the season. Looking at the team’s Albert Park outing, it is almost certain that Ferrari will stage long discussions into the night in Melbourne.
