This weekend, Formula 1 returns to the Austrian GP, once again. The track is well-loved amongst the fans and has offered exciting racing in recent times. However, there was a strange occurrence a few hours ago, as reported by De Telegraaf’s Erik van Haren, who at first thought that there was a fire at the circuit, and certainly, from the images, it would appear there was.
On Twitter, van Haren said: “Something didn’t go quite right at the Red Bull Ring. Now extinguished.” this provoked a variety of reactions from the Dutch fans, some of whom used the fire as part of a joke, poking fun at Mercedes and Ferrari.
However, van Haren later found out that nothing went particularly wrong, and that the situation was different from what he had originally thought. It turns out that they were just firing up the Jet Bus. On Twitter, he wrote: “Nothing wrong, as it turns out. Firing up the Jet Bus’ on the circuit. Will happen again soon.”

Another Max Verstappen-Charles Leclerc battle in the Austrian GP 2022?
Max Verstappen certainly loves the Red Bull Ring. The track is considered one of Red Bull’s home races, and Max Verstappen has always made sure to rally the crowd. The Dutchman has three victories in the last 4 Austrian Grands Prix, but he has won on the track once more in Formula 1. Last year, he won the Austrian and the Styrian Grands Prix back-to-back.
Going into the race, Red Bull certainly have the advantage on paper. The track is not particularly downforce-heavy and doesn’t feature an abundance of corners, instead it is more pure speed. Red Bull have had the advantage on straight-line speed for some time. As for Silverstone, Verstappen looked well poised for the victory until a piece of debris derailed his race. Despite that, he finished an impressive (considering the circumstances) 7th.
Charles Leclerc has stood on the podium twice in Austria. Once in 2020, in the first race of the season, and the other time in 2019, where he was overtaken by Max Verstappen with 3 laps to go, after starting on pole and having led the race for a long time. On lap 69, Max Verstappen had overtaken him, forcing him off the track, an overtake that would have stayed in Leclerc’s mind for some time.
