The F1 Azerbaijan, GP Sprint race, is getting more headlines for Max Verstappen and George Russell‘s heated confrontation than Sergio Perez’s brilliant P1 finish. The heated argument between the two drivers has become the talk of the town, and it has picked up even more flames because of Christian Horner’s comments on the incident.

Christian Horner is well-known in the F1 paddock for backing his drivers even when they are guilty of some wrongdoing. While Max Verstappen and George Russell‘s incident was hard racing, Horner did not back away from commenting on the two drives off-track confrontation. There was no need for him to have his say on the incident.

However, Horner did comment on the incident, and said, “He was understandable annoyed with that, and voiced his opinion to George. It was probably good that he [George] left his crash helmet (he jokes). You can understand that. He is a competitive driver, and when you get damage to your car, you will be disappointed.” These comments by the Brit have not sat well with the F1 fraternity and they have completely bashed him via their reactions.

Looking at the strong reactions of the F1 fans, it is crystal clear that they are not happy with Christian Horner’s comments. There is no place for physical violence at the pinnacle of motor racing. He should avoid saying things that promote it—especially considering that he is the Team Principal of the mighty Red Bull F1 team.

While Christian Horner has received a lot of blowback for his comments, one thing that has gone well for him is that both his drivers, Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen, will be starting tomorrow’s race from the front end of the grid. Perez is on the second row in P3, and Verstappen is in the P2 position on the gird behind Charles Leclerc.

With two drivers against one Ferrari, the duo could play the team game and make sure that they are able to keep the Maranello-based team’s driver behind them throughout the race. However, it is easier said than done, considering the brilliant pace that the SF-23 has shown so far at the Baku Street Circuit.

It is everything to play for during the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and it would be fascinating to see how Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez would approach the race. Considering everything, do you think the Red Bull drivers would play the team game? Or do you see them racing as every man for himself at the event?
