Charles Leclerc, the Ferrari F1 driver, has managed to secure P3 grid slot for the first race of the 2022 F1 season. In an extremely tight Q3 session, the Monegasque was able to hold his never. Moreover, in the process was able to secure a slot on the second row for tomorrow’s Bahrain GP.

Charles Leclerc did not go into the qualifying session on a high because of how his car performed in the sessions before qualifying. However, despite the problems, he managed a strong lap when it mattered.

During the post-qualifying interviews, he was asked whether there was an issue with the car, and he added, “No, there wasn’t an issue. I think we were in the fight for pole, which was a good surprise to be honest because I did not expect that after testing and after the Free Practice sessions – they were a little big difficult but we were.”

I was able to find that little bit of pace for the quali lap, which is great. However, we need to keep in mind that on our race run we seem to be a bit on the back foot compared to Red Bull, and, I think we are in a better position starting third with new tyres the first with old.”

The 25-year-old has admitted that he was in the fight for the pole position, but looking ahead, he has sounded a bit worried as he feels Red Bull has got the upper hand on Ferrari when it comes to race pace.

Charles Leclerc won the Bahrain GP last year, but ahead of tomorrow’s race, he is not too confident about fighting for the win. Moreover, he is worried that Fernando Alonso and could would have a better race pace than his team.

While shedding light on the same, he added, “I hope it will also be like that on the race runs (the field a lot closer) but it was very, very close. Aston Martin were really quick and Mercedes were quick at some points at qualifying. And, we are a lot closer then we expected. In the race run, we have a weakness for now and having a new tyre should help us. It’s going in the right direction atleast.

Charles Leclerc is skeptical going into the first race of the 2022 season, however, considering the chaotic fashion in which the 2022 Bahrain GP ended, anything would be possible during the race. Who are you putting your money on to take the first race win of the 2023 season? Would Charles Leclerc be able to do what he managed last year?
