“Joke is not lost on faithful fans”- F1 Twitter reacts to Nico Hulkenberg’s new ‘ballsy’ post

Nico Hulkenberg & Kevin Magnussen

Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen are Haas’ new line-up for the 2023 season. These two were among the twenty drivers to participate in the 2017 Hungarian Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel for Ferrari was the race winner followed by his teammate Kimi Raikkonen. Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton came third and fourth for Mercedes. The race had four retirements due to brakes, oil leaks, wheel nuts and radiator.

Towards the end, with just nine laps to go, there was a drama. Kevin Magnussen, the Haas driver forced Nico Hulkenberg off the track. He was with Renault at that time. Though Nico retired from the race due to the issues with the brake and gearbox he was classified because he completed 90 percent of the race. Magnussen was given 5 seconds penalty for this incident.

After the race, while Magnussen was giving his interview Nico popped up and called him “the most unsporting driver on the grid”.Kevin replied saying, “suck my balls, mate”. This infamous incident gained a lot of attention in the media and with fans. The drivers clearly are not proud of the moment. The duo have made up nevertheless. It is essential as they are teamed up for the 2023 season. Magnussen and Hulkenberg will be racing for Haas this upcoming season. The latter replaced Mick Schumacher who is now a Mercedes reserve driver. Nico took to Twitter and posted a picture of him, Magnussen and Steiner with the car. The fans had some epic reactions to these, viz. “Fucking legends” and “Ballsy of you to tweet that”.

The fans have not forgotten the incident, but it has, of late, escalated from an angry moment to a funny one. It is now considered one of the funniest exchanges between drivers in Formula One.

Nico posted the picture captioning it, “Part of the team and a pair of balls” which took the fans on a wild run. As the team is preparing for their upcoming season, it is important for them to leave the past behind and stay on good terms. While some fans noticed the changes in the car, most of them were focused on the caption because of the reference.

Much has changed since the last time they raced together, this is a new opportunity and Guenther Steiner, the Haas TP feels the team will be able to extract the performance from Nico Hulkenberg as he is already an experienced driver. Kevin came back to the grid in 2022 replacing Nikita Mazepin and scoring points in the first race of the season giving new hope to Haas who failed to score points in the previous year, 2021. With his new line-up, Haas is quite hopeful and they have successfully launched their 2023 car.
