“Be able to fight the Mercs,” Esteban Ocon aspires to fight Mercedes after a sequence of upgrades planned for Alpine

Esteban Ocon
Esteban Ocon is optimistic about the upcoming Alpine upgrades and hopes for a fight with the “big boys” on the top. Currently the best Alpine could do is to beat McLaren for the fourth spot in the championship and can considerably do it as both the teams are level on points in the championship, 81 each. This is an appreciable achievement for the French team, after a fascinating jump they have managed since the 2021 season, Alpine managed to score 155 points and was fifth on the table with a gap of 120 points to the fourth finisher McLaren.
This time around Alpine has built hopes to fight the likes of Mercedes, currently, the Silver Arrows are 156 ahead of the French team, but Esteban Ocon still hopes for a tough fight to touch the top. Alpine are dependent on the upgrades and is willing to put all their money on it until the budget stops them to. Mercedes seems way ahead currently for their reach but it’s a win if they manage to get a fight with the 2021 winners on regular basis. Ocon managed a P5 finish in Austria that is bossing his confidence currently.
“Yeah. At the moment, that’s where we are of course. As much as we have improved the car, we haven’t improved it enough yet to be able to fight the Mercs. But it is the aim to fight higher, for sure, and it’s still early days and I have hopes we can at some point fight with them, ” Esteban Ocon enlightens his and the team’s aim for the upcoming months.
“There are plans to bring more things to the car and we’ve seen since Silverstone the team brought an upgrade and made a massive step up. So that’s still on the way and we will keep going, “ reviews Ocon on the upcoming upgrades for Alpine.

The two-time world champion joined the grid again in 2021 with Alpine. He was able to beat his teammate but things weren’t much worse for Ocon, he was only 7 points behind his teammate. Currently, he is 23 ahead of his teammate, but things aren’t going easy for the world champion ha has already lost points over his bad luck keeping him behind his teammate.
“Well, I’m in front of him in the championship at the moment and we are still pushing each other in the team. It’s going well for me at the moment, I’m pretty pleased. It’s very close, he’s mega at every race, he’s consistently pushing and that’s what brings the team performance up as well, and we are happy with the collaboration since last year, ” said Esteban Ocon.
Ocon managed a P5 in Austria marking his highest finish this season equalling his teammate’s finish in Silverstone. With France GP up next, the home teams will be looking for a better position to finish and a podium might just be a cherry on the cake.
