Lewis Hamilton almost won the British Grand Prix but ended up being on P3, which he was ultimately satisfied with. Mercedes showed an excellent pace in Silverstone, they were almost on the level or ahead of Ferrari but got unlucky due to the safety car. Toto Wolff also recognised the Mercedes grip on the victory but lost it due to the safety car.

Lewis also returned to the garage quite happy with the car’s improvement but was disappointed with the result. He anyhow talked about the incident that took place on the very first lap of the race, the horrific crash Zhou went through that brought out the red flag. Silverstone saw a few visitors or protestors who were there on the track showing support for the environment.

“I was slowly starting to eat into that gap,” Hamilton said during the post-race press conference. “If we didn’t have a safety car, I think I would have been able to battle these two [Sainz and Perez] at the end. But it wasn’t meant to be.”

Lewis was pointed out for his comments, that was misunderstood by the critics, but he later cleared out his words for the support of the protestors. He actually wanted the protestors to take a stand for the environment but in a safer way.

Big up those guys,” he says jokingly “I love that people are fighting for the planet and we need more people like them,” he said before.

“As we have seen today this is a very dangerous sport. I wasn’t aware of the protest today, and while I’ll support these standing up for what they believe in, it must be done safely. Please don’t jump onto our race circuits to protest, we don’t want to put you in harm’s way,” He later published a proper statement for the protestors on Instagram.

Lewis Hamilton is on P5 of the championship with 93 points and is 18 points behind his teammate.
