Hollywood superstar, Brad Pitt, has taken a bold stance in solidarity with the ongoing Screen Actors Guild, SAG-AFTRA strike, halting all shootings for the eagerly anticipated Formula 1 movie helmed alongside the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. The film tentatively titled ‘Apex’ was scheduled for an early 2025 release, but with the stoppage, it might be delayed.

The filming began with exciting scenes captured at the Silverstone Circuit during the British Grand Prix, where the crew were allotted their own private garage. But the team’s shoot in Budapest, Hungary was halted for the same reasons. Unfortunately, the planned schedule for filming at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium alongside the country’s real-life Grand Prix this weekend was affected and had to be postponed.

The report reveals that Brad Pitt paused planned production for two months to support the ongoing SAG strike. Despite the significant financial implications of postponing the film, Pitt listened to the concerns of his fellow crew members and cast and chose to show solidarity with those participating in the strike. “Brad agreed that they would finish shoots booked in but has postponed planned production over the next two months,” the report revealed.

According to Deadline’s sources, the movie’s crew was set to film at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, known as Spa, during the real-life Grand Prix weekend in Belgium. However, due to Brad Pitt’s decision to halt production in support of the SAG strike, these plans had to be scrapped. The team now hopes for a resolution to the ongoing strike before the next scheduled shooting dates in Las Vegas in November, where they can continue filming.

The SAG-AFTRA strike has paralyzed Hollywood, with around 160,000 professionals fighting for fair compensation and better residuals. Writers, including members of the Writers Guild of America (WGA), are also part of the protest, advocating for sustainable incomes. Several TV shows and movie productions have already felt the strike’s impact, with delays and cancellations becoming widespread.

The Formula 1 movie centers on the story of veteran F1 driver Sonny Hayes, played by Brad Pitt, who experiences a dramatic crash and vanishes from the F1 scene. But later returns to the grid, teaming up with Damson Idris, who plays a hot shot, Joshua Pearce. Hamilton is helping the crew behind the scenes and is being directed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski

Brad Pitt’s decision to halt the shootings of the Formula 1 movie in support of the SAG strike demonstrates his commitment to the cause and solidarity with his fellow industry professionals. With the strike’s outcome still uncertain, the delay in production has heightened curiosity among fans eagerly awaiting this collaboration between Pitt and Hamilton. As negotiations continue between SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP, the hope remains that an agreement will be reached, allowing the resumption of filming for this highly anticipated F1 movie.
