The British Grand Prix, the major sporting event in the Kingsland this weekend, attracted many celebrities to Silverstone. Among them was the renowned supermodel and actress, Cara Delevingne, who made it clear she had no interest in an interview by Martin Brundle. It is commonplace to see Martin Brundle interviewing celebrities during the grid walk.
As Martin Brundle embarked on his pre-race grid walk, hoping to engage Delevingne in conversation, he was met with an icy response. With a touch of irony, Brundle commented, “We’ve got Cara Delevingne here, we’ll see if we can just stand in the way really.” Clearly, the model had no intention of partaking in a chat with the seasoned broadcaster.
Refusing to be deterred, Brundle insisted that speaking on the grid was now the norm for everyone. “She doesn’t want to talk? But everybody has to talk on the grid. That’s the deal now, everybody talks on the grid,” he asserted.
As he made one final attempt to engage Delevingne in conversation, Brundle sought a quick chat, saying, “Sky F1, good to see you on the grid.” Unfortunately, his efforts were swiftly dismissed by the supermodel, who curtly replied, “No.” Brundle’s retort encapsulated his frustration, “Well, the deal is everybody has to speak on the grid, but you know.”

Cara Delevingne’s refusal of the interview has raised the debate about allowing the celebrities at the grid walk
Delevingne cited her inability to hear as the reason for her refusal, leaving Brundle to retreat with a sarcastic remark, “Ok, alright, well, I’m sure that would have been extremely interesting.” The encounter left a sour taste, highlighting the discrepancy between the expectations placed on Formula One drivers and celebrities during grid interviews.
While Brundle had previously respected Lewis Hamilton‘s request not to be interviewed before a race, the same courtesy was not extended to Delevingne. However, despite the awkward encounter, other celebrities such as Pep Guardiola and Liam Payne willingly shared their insights with Brundle.
Marvel’s Black Widow star, Florence Pugh has also graced the race. Fans who witnessed it have been pissed about Cara’s response and flooded Twitter with replies booing the supermodel for rejecting Brundle’s interview.
In the world of Formula One, where access to the grid is highly sought, Brundle’s encounter with Cara Delevingne served as a reminder that not every celebrity is willing to partake in the pre-race spectacle. As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether the expectations for grid interviews will be adjusted to accommodate the preferences of high-profile guests.
