Carlos Sainz drove extremely well at the Australian GP despite undergoing surgery two weeks prior. The Spaniard won the race after Max Verstappen‘s was forced to retire from the Grand Prix. Hence, as the grid prepares for the upcoming Japanese GP, Sainz reflected back on the healing process.
Carlos Sainz had to miss out on the Saudi Arabian GP due to being diagnosed with appendicitis. Hence, the 29-year-old took a massive hit in the championship standings. However, Sainz recovered well from the surgery by winning the Australian GP. The Spaniard recalled that on the day of the flight to Australia, he was still bedridden. The Ferrari driver added that he could barely move his abdomen and had almost given up on racing at Albert Park.
Nine days ago, when I was about to catch the flight to come to Australia, I was still in bed. Barely I could use my abdominal to move and I was like: 'This is not going to happen'. But I took the flight and suddenly when I landed in Australia, the feeling was a lot better.Sainz said, as reported by motorsport.com.
Apart from this, Sainz highlighted that every passing day, he started feeling better. The doctors had advised the same thing to the 29-year-old regarding the healing process. Additionally, the Spaniard asserted that even Alex Albon made the same suggestions about the healing. Hence according to Sainz, the course of recovery more or less followed what everyone said.
Every 24 hours, I was making a lot more progress than the first seven days, which is actually what all the doctors told me. Even Alex Albon told me this, I remember, so it just followed more or less what everyone told me.Sainz noted.
Carlos Sainz took extreme measures to fasten the healing process from the surgery
Carlos Sainz could’ve missed out on the Australian GP if he were deemed unfit for the race. Sainz even faced some issues during the practice sessions and felt uncomfortable while racing. However, the 29-year-old left no stone unturned to fasten his recovery process. The Spaniard mentioned that soon after the surgery, he went online to discuss a speedy recovery with professionals.
As soon as I got my appendix removed, I went on the internet and started talking with professionals and said, 'OK, what helps to speed up recovery?'Sainz explained.
Following this, the Spaniard did all sorts of things to ensure a speedy recovery. Sainz even resorted to using hyperbaric chambers, and an Indiba machine. Additionally, the 29-year-old programmed his sleep schedule and food habits just for the sake of being fit in time for the race in Melbourne.
I started going to hyperbaric chambers twice a day for one hour, taking an Indiba machine. I was programming my time in bed, my time to go for a walk, my time to eat, the kind of food that you have to recover.Sainz said.
Hence the 2024 season is off to a great start for the team and Carlos Sainz. However, the 29-year-old is yet to confirm a team that he will race for from 2025. Sainz has proved his racing mettle by winning the race despite Red Bull’s highly dominant performance. Time will tell about how the season fares for the Italian Constructor.
