“It was every man for himself,” Carlos Sainz gives a strong response to Pierre Gasly’s Q1 rant
Carlos Sainz has asked Pierre Gasly to try and not lose his cool during challenging F1 moments.

Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly
Carlos Sainz, the Ferrari F1 driver, was in the limelight during the Canadian GP qualifying session for all the wrong reasons. He was seen impeding several drivers, but his and Pierre Gasly’s incident quickly stood out. The incident cost the latter a place in Q2, and he immediately came onto the team radio and asked to get Carlos Sainz banned.
For the shenanigans under wet weather conditions, Carlos Sainz has been given a grid penalty and will start the upcoming race from P11 on the grid behind his teammate Charles Leclerc. Ferrari had a terrible outing again, and they are already on the back foot compared to the front-running teams.
While Gasly felt that Sainz should have been banned for his actions, the latter while talking about the Frenchman’s comments told racingnews365, “He is probably a bit excited. I got impeded seven times and I am not asking for anyone to get banned. I will analyze the incident and see, but we were very tight with the flag.“
“The chequered flag was about to fall, and we had to get a lap in. It was one of those situations where it was every man for himself. I got impeded in the same chicane one time, but I am not here shouting.” Looking at the Spaniard’s strong remarks, it is clear that he wants Pierre Gasly to keep his cool, as during the Q1 session, everyone was trying their best to get into Q2, and things happened considering the session was wet.
Carlos Sainz and Ferrari have got a tough task ahead of them in the Canadian GP

While Carlos Sainz has made strong comments, the FIA Stewards have given him a three-place grid drop for the Canadian GP. While stating the reasons, the FIA Stewards in their report, wrote, “The driver of Car 55 [Sainz] stated that he was surprised that the driver of Car 22 [Tsunoda] overtook him into Turn 13 and as a result, he accelerated late to start his fast lap.”
“The driver of Car 10 [Gasly] stated that the driver of Car 55 could have and should have “gone earlier. Telemetry showed a significant speed differential between Cars 55 and 10. Although the overtaking move by Car 22 took the driver of Car 55 by surprise, it is our determination that the driver of Car 55 was predominantly to blame and unnecessarily impeded Car 10.”
What’s done is done, and all Carlos Sainz and Co. can do now is focus on the upcoming race and try their best to make up as many places as possible. However, Sergio Perez is starting right behind Sainz in P12, and it will be crucial for the Spaniard to keep him behind going into Turn 1 on the first lap.
