Carlos Sainz highly critical of the FIA ahead of Miami GP

Carlos Sainz highly critical of the FIA ahead of Miami GP

Formula 1 is welcomed by Miami with open arms and we have seen a lot of on track action so far in the weekend. This is the inaugural Miami Grand Prix, which translates into no information or data available for any team or driver prior to the weekend. The circuit was constructed after a 2 months effort by the Miami locals and was a fresh asphalt for the drivers in FP-1. After a few hours of running, the track started giving better grip and saw constant evolution.

Each driver made mistakes in the process of developing references and understanding the various racing lines. This saw a red flag in each of the practice session. The most notable were the incidents involving Carlos Sainz in FP-2 and Esteban Ocon in FP-3. The Spaniard mistake cost him to retire from the session and deal with a major blow causing him some neck pain the following day.

Esteban Ocon Terms FIA Ignorance Of Carlos Sainz Suggestion : ‘Unacceptable’

Carlos Sainz expressed his views about FIA, saying “I am sorry to be critical but yesterday I told the FIA that my crash in second gear didn’t feel that hard but I had some pain in my neck today and I told them to put tecpro because it a hard wall and then Esteban crashed and I am sure he felt it too.”

The Alpine driver, Esteban Ocon made a mistake in the same corner where Sainz crashed in the previous session. This resulted in the Frenchman suffering a 51G impact crash and visiting the medical centre. As a consequence of this, Ocon was also not able to take part in the qualifying session later in the day and starts at the back of the grid in the Miami Grand Prix.

It remains questionable about how Carlos Sainz’s suggestion about adding a Tecpro barrier in turn 13 was not followed up on by the FIA. At the end of the day, the drivers are the ones who race these cars to the limit on these tracks. The knowledge gained by each one of them is highly valuable and should always be given the utmost priority over any other opinion in the paddock. We hope to see FIA take action on such major issues than be in a spat over negligible issues.
