Carlos Sainz fires a warning to Ferrari; believes it is too early to back teammate in F1 title race

In the current season of the Formula 1 Championship, Ferrari has redeemed their spot as one of the greatest teams in the sport by developing the SF-75–the car to look out for this year. While other teams have been busy fixing reliability issues and race pace problems with their 2022 machines, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc has soared to the P1 position in two of the four races that have happened till now.

Delivering such a stellar performance in the opening races of this year has already made Leclerc a favorite amongst the other for winning the World Championship title this year. The Monegasque has the mentality of a Champion, and he has also got Ferrari’s near-perfect car to back him. But his teammate Carlos Sainz Jr. believes there is still time before we can pin down Charles Leclerc as the most probable winner of the Championship title this year.

Currently sitting atop the Championship standings, Charles Leclerc has a gap of 27 points between him and his nearest competitor–the 2021 World Champion Max Verstappen. Carlos Sainz, who joined Ferrari only last year after his high-profile exit from McLaren, has also got the SF-75 to power him up, but he has not been lucky in the last two races. Yet, Sainz believes he stands a change of clinching the Championship title of he can stay consistent in the upcoming races.

Carlos Sainz’s talent as an F1 driver is undisputed, and this year he has also got the perfect car that can help him win the Championship title. He delivered stellar performances in the first two races of this season, finishing second and third in the opening race in Bahrain, and then in Jeddah respectively. But the Spaniard’s luck ran out in Australia as he had to retire early due to a reliability issue with his car. And then, in Imola, his crash with Daniel Ricciardo ended his run for the second time in a row.

Right now, Carlos Sainz has 48 points to make up for, between him and his teammate Leclerc. Talking about why it might be too early to write off the possibility of him winning the title, Carlos Sainz said, “In a year like this, it’s particularly early because we are going into the longest season in Formula 1. You need to think that in 2020 we did a season that was 17 races and we still have many left.

Carlos Sainz further stated, “For me to start talking about championships, even with all the development there is going to be, it’s not even in my head. I would prefer to be 30-something points ahead, for sure. I would take it. But in a long year like this, with how much the cars are going to change, the development etcetera, talking about the championship with many races to go, for me, it’s early.
