Carlos Sainz is quite possibly en route a disappointing outing in 2023. He has not appeared on the podium even once by the midway point of the season. After finishing at a dismal P16 in the second free practice session leading up to the Dutch Grand Prix, he predicts that Ferrari are close to mimicking their misfortunes from Hungary, where Sainz failed to reach Q3 and had to start from the 11th position at Hungaroring.

Ferrari have been known to struggle, in 2023, at circuits which benefit that cars that capitalise on their downforce. Carlos suggests that Ferrari’s larger rear wing specification cannot match the loads generated by rivals. He said,“We’re going to need to find some lap time, some downforce, some balance because today was a tough day for the team.”

He told F1TV that he was plagued by the same issue at the Hungaroring. He said, “I think we saw something similar in Hungary where we go to higher downforce tracks, for some reason we don’t pick up as much downforce maybe as the others when we go to the bigger rear wings.

Reigning World Champion Max Verstappen has already won 10 out the 12 races this season. He’s set aim to go down in history this weekend for equalling the record for 9 consecutive race wins, but Carlos Sainz thinks he will face a slip-up at one of the remaining 10 races. Carlos predicted, “I don’t fully believe that Max is going to win every weekend”.

Sainz continues to be hopeful for a win while demanding Ferrari to make huge strides in climbing up to Q3. It will sure be exciting to see how he lines up along with his legendary team when the lights go out next in Verstappen’s home Grand Prix.
