Carlos Sainz has just won the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix in a nerve-wracking affair. He was put under a lot of pressure during the dying stages but despite that, he managed to come out on top singing his favorite song ‘The Smooth Operator’.
During the last lap of the race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, the pressure was on both Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz. The two Mercedes cars that were on fresher tires were just creeping up behind them. Sainz was constantly on the radio checking on the cars behind him but as the finishing line approached, his fear turned into utmost jubilation as he got across the chequered flag in P1. Had there been a few more laps left, he could have lost out to the Mercedes drivers.
While talking over his radio at the end of the race, Sainz was heard saying, “This is my first with Ferrari. Smooth operator… smooth operator, Hahaha.” Moreover, this was not the only thing he said, he got into a cheeky conversation with his engineer and it went like this. The engineer said, “In the pit lane, P1.” Sainz asked in disbelief, “Say it again? “Again, again? P1? P1?”
Looking at the reaction of the Spaniard, it is quite clear that he is on cloud nine after securing a hard-fought win in Singapore. The race had its ups and downs from Ferrari’s perspective. But in the end, everything ended well for Carlos Sainz.
Carlos Sainz and the team were at their best during the whole Singapore weekend
Carlos Sainz has managed to secure a win at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in an extremely tight affair. His triumph is much deserved as since landing in Singapore, Sainz looked in stupendous touch and had the edge over his Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc. And also over the likes of Max Verstappen and Co.
Qualifying is considered a major key to securing a Grand Prix in Singapore and the 29-year-old was at his absolute best yesterday. While he ran a tremendous race during the 62-lap dash, his last night’s quali paid a major dividend during tonight’s race. It was crucial for him to not take a single step wrong tonight, and he delivered just that.
With Singapore now out of the way, the F1 extravaganza is going to shift to the free-flowing Suzuka International Racing Course. The SF-23 has looked immensely strong since the Monza weekend. So, Carlos Sainz would be heading to Japan high on confidence.
