Carlos Sainz has played an integral part in Ferrari’s revival since joining the Scuderia at the end of the 2020 season. He claimed 5th position in 2021’s Driving Championship allowing his team to claim 3rd in the Constructor’s championship. Along with teammate Leclerc, the duo finished P1 and P2 in the season opener in Bahrain. It was Ferrari’s first win and 1–2 finish since the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix.

Carlos Sainz finished P2 and P3 in the season openers in Bahrain and Jeddah. After two consecutive podiums, Sainz retired early in the Australian GP on the 2nd lap of the race after losing control and getting stuck in the gravel in turn 10 while Charles Leclerc claimed the victory. 

Sainz and Ferrari are expected to announce a new contract soon, tying the Spaniard to the Italian racing team for the foreseeable future. This is what the Spanish daily AS reported on Monday.

Carlos Sainz’s new contract with Ferrari will keep him with the Maranello team until 2024. According to AS, the contract details are nearly complete and an announcement will be made official in the next few days. The discussions were completed a long time ago, Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto stated publicly after the Bahrain Grand Prix

Sainz’s extension will deem him amongst the longest contracts in the F1 Grid. After Max Verstappen (2028, Red Bull), Lando Norris (2025, McLaren), Esteban Ocon (2024, Alpine) and teammate Charles Leclerc (2024, Ferrari).

The Spaniard is 3rd on the driver’s standings while his Monagesque teammate leads the championship standings. Mattia Binotto claimed he is open to seeing Leclerc and Sainz challenge each other till the chequered flag in the forthcoming Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
