Monégasque racing driver Charles Leclerc has had an awful weekend in Baku. For what seemed like another glimmering victory for the Ferrari driver ended up being a race full of disappointment. Leclerc who was the pole sitter for the 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix in the challenging Baku City Circuit, had to crash out of the race early on in the race due to an engine failure.

His disappointment was shared by teammate Spaniard Carlos Sainz who also had to retire from the race due to the same issue. It was however, even more disheartening for the Monacan given the fact that this was his second retirement due to an engine issue in three races.

Leclerc has slumped from the top of the drivers’ standings to third on the leaderboard after a series of heartbreaks. A sudden entry into the title race has been of Red Bull Racing’s Mexican driver Sergio Perez who’s currently placed second on the leaderboard having overtaken Leclerc following Ferrari’s double DNF in Baku.

However, these series of disappointments for the Monacan driver has done anything but demotivated him, as the Ferrari driver very much so still hopes of winning the title race. He contends that anything is possible.

“I will never give up, this has always been my mentality. I want to win, the WDC is long. We have to understand the problems we had, they were three hard blows. Not an easy moment, but this doesn’t change my motivation,” said Leclerc in an interview ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix.

Leclerc will however get a chance to keep his hopes of winning the title race alive this weekend in the Canadian Grand Prix in the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as the driver can hopefully make a turnaround in the championship by seeking a better result.
