Charles Leclerc is seeking a high-profile move to Ferrari’s arch-rivals to save his F1 career: Reports

Charles Leclerc

Charles Leclerc got the longest contract in the history of Scuderia Ferrari. The Monegasque driver is considered the star driver at Maranello, who will bring the team back to glory in F1. However, Leclerc has not had the best time with Ferrari as the Italian team battles persistent issues. Rumors have floated in the paddock that the 25-year-old might try his hand at potentially switching to Mercedes.

Leo Turrini, a famous F1 journalist from Italy, believes these rumors are no longer speculation. The Italian insisted that Leclerc has been talking to the Silver Arrows, and this is known widely across the F1 paddock. He said, “That Leclerc is talking to Mercedes is Pulcinella’s [a character who could not keep secrets] secret. Everyone knows this, from the remote garage of Maranello to the Indian Ocean.”

Moreover, Turrini was confident that Charles Leclerc would be aware of his prime years passing at Ferrari without the desired results. The journalist explained, “In his unfinished career, Carletto has shown flashes of the purest class. He is the first to know that time passes.” The Monegasque driver might consider a switch to a better opportunity if the Scuderia fails to provide him with a shot for the world title.

The Monegasque driver has been rumored to be in talks with Toto Wolff in the past. Although, Leclerc had always mentioned being focused on his current Ferrari contract before thinking of going to another team. Previously Charles had stated, “2024 is a long time away and there is still time left at Ferrari. Being at this team has always been my dream.”

Accordingly, Leclerc’s main target continues to be the first driver since Kimi Raikkonen to win the F1 title with Ferrari. Subsequently, the 25-year-old had put an end to such rumors in the past. The Monegasque said in 2022, “My objective at the moment is to win with Ferrari and then we’ll see.” However, the recent struggles at Maranello might force Charles to think about the future sooner rather than later.

Charles Leclerc is rumored to be in talks with Mercedes for a potential switch after his Ferrari contract runs out. The Monegasque driver has publicly stated his frustrations after only scoring 6 points in the first three rounds of 2023. Consequently, it would not be surprising if Leclerc decided to go with the Silver Arrows that dominated F1 for multiple years in the turbo hybrid era.
