“Charles Leclerc becomes so greedy that he starts overdriving himself,” Ferrari driver criticised for aggresive approach
Formula 1 has completed five rounds of the 2022 season and the story so far has been a championship rivalry between Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen. The Ferrari and the Red Bull driver are both on top of their game and have delivered exceptional performances on track. The Miami Grand Prix was another example of the thrilling action that this season entails and what is set to unfold between these two young drivers.
The Qualifying session on Saturday witnessed Charles Leclerc clinch the pole position as Max Verstappen only managed P3 due to an error in his hot lap. However, this didn’t hamper the spirits of the reigning world champion as he made an opportunistic move on lap 9 of the race and took the lead from the championship leader. The Dutchman grabbed the victory and the maximum points out in Miami to close the gap on Charles Leclerc in the drivers championship.

Charles Leclerc Second Best To Max Verstappen In Each Battle
In each on track action between these two drivers, Max Verstappen has managed to come out on top more times than Leclerc. Former Formula 1 driver, Christijan Albers analysed Leclerc’s performance by saying, “it is Leclerc’s own fault that he did not win the race. After the restart after the safety car the race was reset again and the Ferrari driver had every chance to attack the leader of the race. The moment he had the biggest chance to take the win, he let it slip out of his hands.”
The Miami Grand Prix witnessed a late safety car in the race which set Leclerc right on the tail of Verstappen. However, the Red Bull fended off the ferrari to maintain the lead. Christijan Albers commented on this by saying, “This moment after the safety car was a good opportunity for him to be able to pass Max. He was close and was faster at that moment. With the slipstream and the DRS he had the possibility. But you always see that with Leclerc; that he becomes so greedy that he starts overdriving himself. You saw that in Sector 2.”
Albers summarised by analysing Red Bull’s performance as he said, “It came all the way to him [Verstappen]. You just saw that the car was getting faster and faster. Leclerc really needed the safety car to get into the fight a little bit more.” After Miami, only a gap of 19 points separate Max Verstappen from Charles Leclerc. The season still entails a prospect of 18 races yet to come and we are locked in for a season long battle between these two.
