The Azerbaijan track is a street circuit with relatively long straights and given the ability of the new cars to race in close quarters of each other, the upcoming weekend could prove to be the most exciting race of the current season.

Leclerc after Friday practice was asked to give his thoughts on retaining the Championship lead in Azerbaijan and the Monegasque sounded skeptical and said, “Well I hope so. Whether it will be this weekend or not, I don’t know.”

But if we do everything perfect, I’m confident that we’ll take it back at one point.”

Charles Leclerc is confident yet cautious at the same time as he is well aware of what the Milton Keynes-based Red Bull team is capable of.

While Charles Leclerc ideally wants to take the lead back of the Drivers Championship from Verstappen at Azerbaijan but also is aware that the Red Bull has got serious pace and has indicated that they at Ferrari are going to do everything in their power to get the lead back during this weekend or in the future.

The Azerbaijan GP has over the years made a reputation of being unpredictable and given the antics of last season, Leclerc is certainly right in indicating that they might have to wait for their moment.

During Friday Practice sessions Sergio Perez was quickest during the FP1 whereas Leclerc was able to take the pole during FP2. After yesterday, the 24-year-old is not sure where they are in comparison to Red Bull and has his doubts ahead of today’s qualifying.

A lot would be made clear during FP3 where all the teams would look to test out their single lap pace and from there Leclerc and co would be able to get a clearer picture and would be able to plan their strategy accordingly for the all-important Azerbaijan qualifying.
