Damon Hill, former Formula 1 champion, claims Charles Leclerc is stuck at Ferrari as Red Bull and Mercedes already have a solid line-up. Leclerc joined the team in 2019 and has five wins up to date. Based on the team’s performance this season, it does not look like he will get his sixth win soon. Ferrari have let their driver down with the SF-23’s pace, as it is no match for the mighty RB19.

Leclerc’s contract with Ferrari ends at the end of the 2024 season. There has been speculation that he is looking at his options for the future. Though the rumors link him to Mercedes, Damon Hill believes that the Brackley team and Red Bull would not want to take a chance on him now. The 1996 Formula 1 world champion spoke to Sky Sports F1 about Charles Leclerc’s situation.

Damon Hill stated, “I think he’s rather stuck at Ferrari for a bit. When you look around at the top teams and who they have in their teams, they’re probably content with what they’ve got at the moment. I’m not sure that there’s anywhere else for him to go. Red Bull, I doubt it.” He added that Mercedes boss Toto Wolff would stick with the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton unless Lewis wants out.

Hill added, “I think Charles is the perfect fit for Ferrari. So I think he’s there for the long term until they give him a car that he can go for a championship with.” Damon Hill then spoke of another possible team for Leclerc. He said, “I mean Aston Martin are a coming team, possibly.” If things don’t change for the better in Ferrari, Hill believes that Leclerc would look for a seat somewhere else.

Damon Hill suggested Aston Martin based on their current form. This is because they are currently P2 in the constructor standings. Also, Fernando Alonso’s four podiums in the first five races contributed to the team’s success. Hill hinted that Aston Martin could be an option for Leclerc if they continue to perform well.

Damon Hill thinks Leclerc is better off in Ferrari despite the circumstances. The 25-year-old has been clear that he loves his team and wants to win the championship with them. Leclerc stated that he believes in Ferrari and trusts everyone, from the mechanic to the boss. He also added that it is not a one-way street, and the team has to believe in him too.
