The Ferrari F1 team has not had the kind of 2023 season they had hoped for this year. While the Maranello-based team is in a cut-throat battle with Mercedes for second place in the Constructors Championship, its star driver, Charles Leclerc, has shed light on the factor that could force him to ditch Ferrari in the upcoming years.
Leclerc has been making his trade with the Ferrari F1 team since the 2019 season of the sport. Over the years, he has turned out to be one of the main figures on the team, but he feels that if the Italian team’s F1 project doesn’t live up to his expectations in the coming years, he might have to look elsewhere the F1 grid for a racing seat.
While shedding light on the same ahead of this week’s Qatar Grand Prix, he said, as reported by Motorsportsweek, “I view it in a way that whenever I won’t believe in the project anymore, that probably will be the time when I’ll have to go away. Because it’s in these kinds of situations that you don’t get the best out of yourself, that you don’t help the team as much as it needs to be helped.”

"But this is definitely not the case at the moment. I believe in the project as much as I’ve ever believed in the project before."

“But this is definitely not the case at the moment. I believe in the project as much as I’ve ever believed in the project before. Especially since Fred arrived. So for now it’s clear. Then it’s also clear that I want to win. But I believe in this project and I’m sure we are working in the right direction.” Leclerc wants to be world champion as soon as possible.

Charles Leclerc is in sixth position in the 2023 driver’s standings
While Charles Leclerc has made it known that he has full faith in the project of the Ferrari F1 team, the ongoing campaign has not proved fruitful for him. After seventeen rounds this year, the Monegasque driver has only managed three podiums and has fought hard to amass 135 points, putting him in sixth place in the standings.

Leclerc is currently behind his teammate, Carlos Sainz, but considering that there are still six races remaining in the 2023 season, he would look to make up a few places and also, at the same time, score a few more podium finishes. The SF-23 has improved immensely in the last few races, which are good signs for Leclerc heading into the Qatar event.
P4 in today’s race ?? Not much we could have done better, we maximised our potential which is what we need to do in weekends where the pace is a bit less good.

The Lusail International Circuit supports fast racing and presents the drivers with several overtaking opportunities. The SF-23 has looked extremely good in qualifying as well as race trim since the Monza weekend, and taking this into account, several eyes will be on Charles Leclerc and Co. during the famous Qatar Grand Prix.
