Extreme weather conditions red-flagged the Q3 session of Qualifying for the Brazilian GP. This resulted in Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc occupying the front row of the grid after the abrupt end of the session. Since the Ferraris do not have enough pace to compete the entire race with the Red Bulls, Leclerc has talked about his plans in the race.

Due to the race being a sprint weekend at the Brazil GP, Leclerc talked about the difficulty in reading optimal race strategies. Additionally, the Monegasque driver added that the difference in fuel levels of every car made it hard to get a proper read of the race conditions.

On this sprint weekend it’s very difficult to have a read, We did a few laps, but I think fuel levels of everybody is very different in this FP1 on such a format, so very difficult to have a proper reading on who is fast, who is not.

The 26-year-old also claimed that the car felt ‘okay’ and questioned if the pace would be enough to challenge the Red Bull’s dominant RB19. When the reporters quizzed Leclerc about winning the race, he displayed uncertainty and discussed his plan to pass Verstappen at the start and ‘block him’ for the rest of the race.

The feeling was okay, whether this will be enough to challenge the Red Bull I think is a bit of another story because this year, unfortunately they are very, very, very strong and much stronger than us coming the Sunday. If there’s the opportunity to pass at the start and then to block him for all the other laps, then I’ll take that.

Charles Leclerc commented on the qualifying session’s amazing result

The conditions were looking so bizarre that Leclerc was ready to pit and hold onto the tenth position rather than risk the car and tires.
