Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was spotted at the 24 hours of Le Mans earlier this year in June, where Ferrari came in first over the formidable Toyota. Recently, in an interview with Motorsport, Leclerc added his name to the list of many F1 drivers wanting to race in Le Mans.

Leclerc said he wishes to unite with his brother Arthur Leclerc and best friend Antonio Fuoco to race at Le Mans. He said that while their different and hectic schedules will pose many problems, they will compete in the competition one day.

“It’s something that I will definitely want to do one day, together with Arthur and Antonio. We will see when it will be possible, we will have to combine all our plans because we compete in different categories, but that day will come,” Leclerc Motorsports.Com.

The last driver to compete in Le Mans and the full F1 season was Fernando Alonso in 2018, who managed to win the race with Toyota. Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg also won the 24 hours at Le Mans with Porsche in 2015 while retaining his seat with Force India in F1.

With the new engine regulations taking effect in 2026, the cars will be getting much heavier due to the new battery, contributing to 50% of the car’s power output. Charles Leclerc was recently asked about his view of the situation, to which he expressed how he doesn’t like driving heavy vehicles.

Leclerc said that he does not like driving heavy cars due to their reduced agility, which is very significant in low-speed corners. Leclerc said that he is happy with the current scenario and would not like it if the car’s weight were to increase further.

“I don’t like heavy cars because they are less agile and in low speed corners this aspect comes out a lot. It’s a matter of balance, but I’m sure I don’t want to further increase the weight we have now,” said Leclerc.

Leclerc is currently negotiating with Ferrari for a contract renewal, as his current deal expires at the end of the 2023 season. With 99 points and fifth place on the WDC standings, his aim after the summer break would surely be to get out of George Russell’s range, who stands at sixth with the same points.
