The Aston Martin F1 team had a fascinating 2023 F1 season. From starting the campaign on the front foot to getting pegged back to once again showing form during the closing stages, they had quite a run. Seeing how the season unfolded for them, Red Bull’s Christian Horner feels they could be title contenders this year.
Aston Martin’s charge was led by Fernando Alonso during the 2023 F1 season where he single-handedly carried the burden of the whole team. Alonso was on it from the get-go and it was because of his efforts that Aston Martin was able to finish the campaign in fifth place in the constructor’s standings.
During the final few rounds, the Silverstone-based team was in an intense tussle with McLaren for fourth place but because of a superior pace of car development, the latter was able to edge them out. However, despite this Christian Horner feels Alonso and Co. could be a force to reckon with this year. He told as.com;
With stable rules, Mercedes or even Aston Martin will be contenders next year.
The 50-year-old has made it quite clear that seeing the progress that Aston Martin has made under the current set of regulations, there could arise a scenario this year where the green-colored team is seen locking horns with Red Bull and the other top F1 teams.
Aston Martin is on an upward trajectory in F1
While Christian Horner has deemed Aston Martin a possible team that could find itself at the front end of the grid during the 2024 F1 season, a lot of credit for how they progressed in 2023 goes to the people working at the team. The race engineers, aerodynamicists, the team principal, Mike Krack, and various other crucial personnel.
Moreover, some of the credit also goes to the former 4-time F1 world champion, Sebastian Vettel. His input during the 2022 F1 season played a major role in helping Aston Martin produce a strong car for 2023. Had Vettel not been there, it could not have been possible.
Happy New Year, team! ?
