Christian Horner, the Red Bull Team Principal, has come forward and bashed the media outlets for the negative coverage that they have been doing around Sergio Perez. Horner is disappointed that his driver was put in a tough spot in the recent races and has indicated to the media not to overdo things going forward.
While Sergio Perez has been having a tough time lately at the pinnacle of motor racing, Christian Horner feels the 34-year-old has enough experience to deal with all the outside noise. Perez has seen everything over the years and is accustomed to negative coverage.
At the Hungarian Grand Prix, Perez was able to score a P3 finish for the team, and keeping this in view, Horner told the media, “The problem is you guys [the media], wind things up, and you can go from hero to zero in this business pretty quickly. He’s not immune to that. And I think he responded in the best possible way and did his talking on the circuit and delivered a great performance.”
“Formula 1 is a pressure business, he knows that. He’s been around long enough to know the pressures there are in F1 and at Red Bull sometimes that’s even more heightened. But he’s responded in the best possible way, and I think he’ll be more than happy with his drive.” Horner is extremely pleased with how Sergio Perez has dealt with all the negative noise.
Sergio Perez would want to score at least a podium at Spa
While the Red Bull boss has applauded Sergio Perez for how he has dealt with certain things, the Mexican is well aware that despite his P3 finish in Hungary, he is nowhere near Max Verstappen in the Drivers Championship. Currently, the gap between the two drivers is a huge 110 points.
Sergio Perez has had a few ups and downs in the 2023 F1 season, but his teammate, on the other hand, has been in scintillating form and has bashed his competition. Verstappen’s hallmark has always been his consistency, which he has shown again during the ongoing campaign.
However, from Sergio Perez’s perspective, it will be important for him to focus on himself rather than what his teammate is doing. The Mexican starlet managed a podium in Hungary and would look to score another at the upcoming race to finish the first leg of the 2023 campaign on a strong note.
