The 2024 F1 season has been overshadowed by the saga going on at Red Bull. This has spooled up the rumour mill in the paddock regarding key personnel in Milton Keynes deciding whether to stay with the team. Now, numerous reports have emerged that Adrian Newey is dissatisfied with the current situation at Red Bull. Moreover, Christian Horner is reported to have retaliated by suggesting Newey move to the RB17 Hypercar project.
The situation within Red Bull has escalated in the past few weeks. Rumours emerged that the team’s star driver, Max Verstappen, may want to leave. On the contrary, it is also speculated that Helmut Marko may face suspension amidst the rift between him and the Austrian side.
Moreover, this raised the pressure within the team, and the British designer felt dissatisfied due to the ongoing saga. According to Auto Motor Und Sport, Christian Horner wants his compatriot to move to the Hypercar project over concerns of exceeding the cost cap.
However, the 65-year-old is regarded as the best designer on the F1 grid and has amassed significant success over the years. This suggestion has perplexed the paddock, as leaving out Newey may be a death sentence for Red Bull’s domination.
Christian Horner asserts his leadership in the team
Since allegations were put on Horner, there have been constant speculations about whether he will remain the team principal at Red Bull. This in turn led to speculations and rumours regarding whether team members like Verstappen and Marko would like to leave the team if the situation is not resolved.
When asked about his opinion regarding the speculations of other members leaving the team, Horner stated:
The team is the team, Max is part of the team, Helmut is part of the team, I lead this team, and everybody has a key role to play.Christian Horner said as reported by PlanetF1
The Brit made it clear that everyone at Red Bull has a huge part to play. Horner firmly believes that the Austrian outfit has operated as a single until for years and everyone has played important roles in it.
Keeping in how things have panned out in recent times at Red Bull, it will be fascinating to see how the weird situation at Red Bull will further develop. There is a high chance that the Austrian outfit could dominate the headlines for all the wrong reasons during the Australian GP weekend.
