Carlos Sainz and Nyck De Vries
Carlos Sainz is well known in the F1 paddock as the guy with the funny bones, and during the FP1 session of the ongoing first day of the Mexican Grand Prix, the Spaniard misunderstood Ferrari’s radio message and that has got people laughing all over the globe.
Carlos Sainz during the session was alerted by his team over the team radio about Nyck De Vries being behind him on an outlap, but the 28-year-old misheard the message and was perplexed about it.
First, the Ferrari team came up with a message saying, “De Vries behind on an out lap.” However, Sainz misunderstood the message and replied, “What? Debris?”
This whole segment has got fans falling off their comfy sofas and they have taken to Twitter to let their opinions known about the hilarious incident.
The F1 enthusiasts are having a hard team keeping their laughter in check after the incident, and it’s totally understandable, considering Sainz heard debris instead of De Vries.
The Dutchman is doing the FP1 session in place of George Russell so that Mercedes abides by the rule of giving young drivers a few runs during 2022 Grand Prix weekends.

While Carlos Sainz stole the headlines for misleading Ferrari’s radio message, this was not the only noticeable thing that happened around the Spaniard during the session.
From the time he got out at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez Circuit, he was feeling at ease in the F1-75, and on the back of it, was able to deliver the fastest time of the session.
Carlos Sainz managed a time of 1:20:707 which proved just too good for the rest of the drivers, however, despite being the fastest, his FP1 time came under huge jeopardy as his teammate Charles Leclerc came extremely close to beating him, and just missed out by +0.046 seconds.

The FP1 session was an important session where the teams were able to gather valuable tire-related data as, during FP2, the teams will run the Pirelli test tires for 2023, and the data of those tires, will not come in handy on Saturday, and eventually during the 71-lap Grand Prix on Sunday.
