Cyril Abiteboul discards the rumors about Hyundai planning to go into F1

Ex-Renault team boss Cyril Abiteboul, who currently serves as the new boss for Hyundai Motorsport, has clearly mentioned that Hyundai will not be making any efforts to join Formula 1 currently. He has made it very clear that the main priority of the team right now is to excel in Rallying. Cyril Abiteboul was announced as the team principal Hyundai Motorsports last week after a long period of speculation. The South Korean Constructor made the announcement about Cyril Abiteboul just a few days before the start of the 2023 World Rally Championship in Monaco.
Abiteboul had served as the managing director of the Renault F1 team from 2014 to 2020. Before that, he had been the team boss at Caterham. Given his immense experience in Formula 1, the very natural question was if Hyundai recruited the Frenchman to help them get on the Formula 1 grid. However, Cyril Abiteboul has made it absolutely clear that getting into Formula 1 is not the plan for Hyundai. “There is no particular plan,” said Cyril.
Cyril Abiteboul also emphasized on the fact that whatever his new team, Hyundai, does, needs to benefit the business as a whole. In the current scheme of things, contesting in the Rally is serving the business and helping the company. Therefore the current aim is to make sure that it stays that way.

Cyril Abiteboul says Rallying is “certainly the priority now” for Hyundai

The Frenchman explained that Hyundai as a brand are looking to develop as much as they can on a global scale. This includes a new product line-up, a new range of cars and a lot more. The main aim of the Motorsports section of Hyundai is to support the main company. Therefore, Cyril Abiteboul said that he needs to do what is the best of the business as a whole and what the Motorsport section of the company needs to do to support it.
He said, “Rally has been the best solution in order to support small segment cars, segment A. That certainly is the priority right now. We are getting ready. We must win and make sure that rally keeps on serving the interests of the business, I don’t want to say yes, because then you’re going to elaborate that Hyundai is going to F1.“
If however, in the future, the company needs them to do something else, then Cyril will definitely see about it and think about the various options. Coming into Formula 1 might be an option then. However, for now, it is very clear that The main priority for Hyundai Motorsports is winning in Rallies.
