Max Verstappen and Red Bull had a record-breaking campaign in 2023. The reigning world champions seem to be on track to continue their success this year with the radically-designed RB-20. Pre-season testing revealed that Verstappen might be the quickest driver once again this season. However, an F1 journalist was abused by fans for hoping to see more competition. Subsequently, ex-F1 world champion Damon Hill defended the reporter.

F1 journalist Jennie Gow had posted the timing sheets from Day 1 of pre-season testing on X. The female reporter hoped that the 2024 F1 season would not be a repeat of Max Verstappen’s domination. However, this enraged fans on the platform. So much so that one fan claimed that Gow had “brain damage.“ Moreover, the fan reckoned that the reporter had never made such comments during Lewis Hamilton’s dominant years in the sport.

Damon Hill defended Jennie Gow. The F1 champion was furious after seeing the abusive comments towards the female journalist. Hill wrote an angry post on X, claiming that fans should be ashamed of themselves for such comments. Moreover, the Briton told the user to hide themselves inside a hole and never show their face online again.

Moreover, Hill mentioned that it was because of such uncivilized fans that society had become so heartless in recent years. Certainly, Damon Hill took the right stand against such online hate which could devastate a person. Previously, Hill had mentioned that Verstappen was satisfied with his pre-season testing runs.

Max Verstappen remains the favorite to win 2024 F1 title

Max Verstappen delivered some impressive runs in pre-season testing. The three-time world champion admitted that Red Bull pushed to the limit with the RB-20. This could put Verstappen in a prime position to dominate the sport once again in the upcoming season.

Fernando Alonso has already claimed that Verstappen will win the 2024 title. The Spaniard mentioned that the other 19 drivers had even fewer chances of winning a race this season. Certainly, it is clear that Red Bull has the upper hand over its rivals after three days of pre-season testing in Bahrain.

Max Verstappen has declared his ambitions to win a fourth championship in 2024. The Dutch driver seems to have everything in his favor before the first round of the season in Bahrain. However, it remains to be seen if the 26-year-old faces a challenge from rivals as he tries to win the season opener in a dominant fashion.
