Daniel Ricciardo is on a hiatus from Formula 1. For 2023, Ricciardo had a homecoming back to Red Bull Racing, albeit as a reserve driver. Daniel will be seen as an ambassador of the energy drinks giant with a few takes on its F1 simulator. This comes after Danny Ric suffered a couple of rough seasons in the sport. As the Aussie got outraced by teammate Lando Norris at McLaren. However, Daniel aims to be back in F1 in 2024.

Daniel Ricciardo may not be racing in F1 this season, but the Honey Badger remains in the limelight. The Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert invited Daniel as a guest on the show recently. This allowed Ricciardo to talk about a host of different topics to the fans in a relaxed setting. The 33-year-old was at the forefront of discussing the rise of F1 in the United States. Although, Daniel also spoke on F1’s long history in Europe.

Daniel Ricciardo mentioned how Formula 1 has always had a foothold in several parts of the world, including Europe. Danny Ric said, “There’s parts of the world where it’s [F1] always been big. Europe, Formula 1 has always existed for many, many years.” Ricciardo went on to describe the massive F1 following in the European continent formed over decades. He continued, “There’s always been a core following there.”

Stephen Colbert asked Daniel Ricciardo about the reason for Formula 1’s dominance in Europe. Danny Ric described the way Europe has established itself as the center for F1 and motorsport. Daniel replied, “That’s like the Hub of motorsport and Formula 1. Like a lot of teams are based there.” The majority of F1 teams are based in the European continent with only the Haas F1 team having a headquarters outside of it. Albeit Haas has regional bases in Europe as well.

Daniel Ricciardo mentioned his personal experience of having to race in Europe to make it to F1. He said, “So even like me, coming from Australia, that’s where I knew I needed to be. I needed to be in Europe… that’s where the teams and sponsors are and ultimately the industry.” Ricciardo also stated his inadequacy to provide the fans with the history behind the status quo. Danny said, “There’s probably some history behind that. I can’t answer that.”

Hence, Daniel Ricciardo allowed fans to understand why Formula 1’s heart lies in Europe. However, presently, the sport has successfully managed to infiltrate the United States with the help of ‘Drive to Survive.’ F1 looks for further expansion in America this year with Las Vegas joining the calendar. As such, F1 will race three times in the ‘Land of the Free’ in 2023, with big bucks to be made at each Grand Prix.
