Daniel Ricciardo will leave McLaren at the end of the season, but that has not taken any pressure of him. Because he is still fighting for his seat, as he has none appropriate for next year. The 33-year-old has had an incredibly disappointing season, perhaps even more so than the first season, and has been given a complete thrashing by Lando Norris.

COTA was no different. Ricciardo started P15 but finished one worse, which isn’t good, to say the least. On the other hand, his teammate, Lando Norris, finished P6, once again taking valuable points. After the race, the Australian was not left with much to say: “I have no idea what to say.” as per Yahoo! Sport Australia.

The gap in lap times is a mystery to the Honey Badger: “Honestly it’s 2022, it’s been just so far off the pace that I simply can’t lean on it, can’t push, can’t get the time out of it. Also the inconsistency of the lap times it shows that it can really be a struggle but to have such a big margin again remains a mystery.”

Ricciardo says that describing his race as ‘painful’ would be an understatement: “I love Texas, I love Austin, but that race itself for me was not enjoyable. When you think it can’t get worse it does. I don’t know how I’m continuing to continue because painful is an understatement.”

Daniel Ricciardo is in between a rock and a hard place. While he may have a chance to get the Haas seat, as Guenther Steiner has expressed public interest in him, he is not too keen on that. But if normality ensues, that means there will be no full-time seat for him next year.

So, he’s looking at a reserve driver role for 2023. He was earlier linked to Mercedes, but more recently, there were rumours that he was apparently signed on as a reserve driver role with Red Bull. But then Ricciardo came out, and said that there are no deals in place yet, even if he is in talks.

Who is he in talks with? No one knows for sure. But people will surely love to see the Australian remain connected with the grid and the sport, even if that comes in a reserve driver role. However, even if he does get a reserve driver role, there’s no real saying if he’ll even get another full-time racing seat again. He will be 34 next year.
