Daniel Ricciardo, ahead of the upcoming Hungarian GP, has finally come forward and shared his opinion on the brutal sacking of Nyck De Vries from the AlphaTauri F1 team. The Australian has taken over the seat left by De Vries but has advised the Dutchman to take it in his stride as such things are part of the sport.
Daniel Ricciardo is back on the F1 grid after a hiatus of six-seven months, and it has only been made possible because of the sacking of Nyck De Vries just after ten rounds of the 2023 campaign. Before that, Ricciardo was making his trade as the reserve driver for the Milton-Keynes-based Red Bull Formula 1 team.
Ricciardo has himself been in the kind of boat that De Vries was in recently. While talking about him, he added, “Nyck is also in his late twenties, and I believe he is mature enough to understand the sport, just as I do, especially when I reflect on my last year. A year ago, I didn’t think I would still be driving a Formula 1 car, and now here I am.”
“It’s about how you deal with setbacks and how you come out of them. I wish Nyck the best, and if I ever come across him on the Formula 1 grid, I would find it great.” The 34-year-old, on the one hand, has admitted that he was not expecting to be on the F1 grid this year and, on the other, has wished the best for Nyck De Vries in his racing career.

Daniel Ricciardo will be the main point of attraction at the Hungarian GP

While Daniel Ricciardo has shown sympathy toward Nyck De Vries, he has got a major challenge coming his way on the Faenza-based AlphaTauri team. The AT04 is easily the worst car on the 2023 F1 grid and has earned several gremlins that proved too much for De Vries to handle and ultimately led to his sacking.
Daniel Ricciardo has previously several times made it known that he wants a top seat at the pinnacle of motor racing. Moreover, he sees AlphaTauri as the perfect launching pad to send him in that direction. However, it will not be easy going up against a much improved Yuki Tsunoda.
The Japanese driver has performed brilliantly in a lackluster car so far in the season, and if the Australian is to make a strong claim for a top seat, he would need to outperform or at least match his teammate. Considering that the upcoming race is at the tricky Hungaroring, how do you see him fairing at the circuit?
