Daniel Ricciardo, the VCARB F1 driver, has started the 2024 season on the back foot in comparison to his teammate, Yuki Tsunoda. He had high expectations at his home race in Australia, but despite his best efforts, was only able to manage a 12th-place finish.
With the Japanese GP quite a few days away, Daniel Ricciardo has made it known that he is working very hard to get back to his best. Ricciardo desperately wants to kick his campaign into gear from Suzuka onwards.
The 34-year-old is yet to score points this year.
I just have the impression that I often may not be able to go at the speed that Yuki can go. That’s why I’m asking the team a lot of questions right now. I expect things to go in the other direction pretty quickly. Before you know it, we’ll be back in the game. I know I’m joking said, but I really believe that. So yeah, hopefully, we can turn things around.Daniel Ricciardo said in an interview with Motorsport-total
Ricciardo believes that currently, Tsunoda can take the VCARB01 through the various circuits at a quicker pace than him. This is one area where he is working hard to make sure he is at the pace of the 23-year-old at the Japanese GP.
Daniel Ricciardo admits to ‘not expecting’ a tough start
While Daniel Ricciardo has made it known that he is working at full tilt to get to equal footing with Yuki Tsunoda, he has also admitted to not expecting a challenging start. Coming into the 2024 season, Ricciardo was confident of hitting the ground running from the get-go.
However, things have not panned out as per his expectations and this is one of the reasons why he has come under a bit of criticism.
I didn’t expect such a start to the season. Last year in Budapest I was immediately ahead of Yuki in qualifying and had a really strong race with practically no prior knowledge. So I really assumed that we would start the season much stronger. That's why a lot of people, not just me, are wondering what's going on.Daniel Ricciardo said in the same interview
The former eight-time Grand Prix winner has a wealth of experience when it comes to F1. He has been competing in the sport for a long time, and all his well-wishers, want to see him performing at his level best.
One has to keep in view that both Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo are potential candidates for the 2025 seat at Red Bull. In their case, the situation is quite simple, whoever outperforms the other, will be preferred.
