Daniel Ricciardo is one of the most adored drivers at the pinnacle of motor racing. He has a huge fanbase worldwide, but his recent years in the sport have not been smooth sailing. Ricciardo has gone through quite a tumultuous time, and while he is currently on the sidelines, he has taken the time to talk about the most challenging phase of his F1 career.

Daniel Ricciardo debuted at the pinnacle of motor racing in 2011, but his career kicked into gear when he joined the Red Bull F1 team at the start of the 2014 campaign. He won several Grand Prix during his time with them and was one of the most respected drivers in the sport.

However, when he joined McLaren after his Renault stint, he had a horrendous time alongside Lando Norris. While talking about the same, he said, as reported by Racingnews365, “There are always moments of head scratching, but not a whole lot, where there was a lot of head scratching in the last 12 months.”

I think there were times when I would for sure let it get me a bit too low. I really learned to adjust a little bit and just try to take some learnings from those. When you win, it’s easy and all you want to do is celebrate, you don’t want to do your homework when you want to go and enjoy the moment which is totally fair enough. That was a challenging time for sure. But I think it also made me learn a lot,” he said.

While Daniel Ricciardo sees his McLaren stint as one of the most challenging times of his F1 career, he is currently on the road to recovery from his brutal injury during the Dutch GP weekend. During the FP2 session of the event, he went into the barriers and broke one of his wrists.

Since then, rookie driver Liam Lawson has been filling in for him at the AlphaTauri F1 team, with Ricciardo working his socks off in the background to be fit as soon as possible. The 34-year-old will not participate in the upcoming weekend’s race at the famous Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Liam Lawson has done a terrific job as his deputy at AlphaTauri, and considering that after Singapore, the next event is from the 22nd onward, it would be fascinating to see whether Daniel Ricciardo could make a comeback by then. It is a prevailing belief that Ricciardo’s most likely return could come around the Qatar race weekend.
