“We were falling off so much,” McLaren to analyse Lando Norris’ superiority over Daniel Ricciardo
Andreas Seidl and Lando Norris
Andreas Seidl, McLaren’s team principal, is worried about the inconsistent performance of Daniel Ricciardo. Daniel left Renault after 2020 and joined McLaren. The British team finished third in 2020 with a huge improvement in their performance. This looked like a great deal with Ricciardo joining a well-doing team. But things were different for the Aussie driver driving beside young talent Lando Norris.
Daniel Ricciardo struggled in his first year with McLaren, he was very inconsistent with the results that ultimately paid off in the end. With McLaren finishing fourth in constructors, things were not so stable with only one driver giving out the best results every time. But the team, including all the fans, had hoped for Ricciardo to give out a world champion material performance in 2022. However, things are much more difficult for the driver this season.
Daniel has been beaten by his teammate throughout the season. He has had such a poor season with struggles even to get in points. Hungary is one major explanation for the team boss, Andreas Seidl, to give out a dose of talk to the 32-year-old driver. Daniel started P9 and finished P15 on the same strategy as his teammate.
“We need to understand why on Daniel’s side, with exactly the same strategy, we were falling off so much with the hard tyres in the final stint which put Daniel out of the points. That’s what we need to analyse together with Daniel,” said Andreas Seidl.
Andreas Seidl is excited about the McLaren’s upcoming upgrades
McLaren brought an upgrade in Hungary which looked strong. The team managed to get both the drivers in Q3 and had a starting position of P4 and P9. Andreas Seidl is pleased with the upgrades doing its work on MCL36.
“I am very happy that we could also show in the race the encouraging signs we had already seen in Paul Ricard and also on Friday since we introduced our upgraded package in terms of performance. They have definitely made a good step forward which allowed us to score the P4 in quali and the P7 of Lando in the race,” said Andreas Seidl.
Currently, Daniel Ricciardo is way off to Lando Norris with 19 points in comparison to 70 points. Daniel has only stood on the podium with McLaren once getting the victory for the team after a decade.
