Daniil Kvyat raced for Red Bull and its sister team in F1. The Russian driver was promoted to Milton Keynes after just one season at Toro Rosso. The 29-year-old was demoted back to Faenza after just over a year in 2016. Kvyat was forced out before 2018 but was later called back in 2019 for two more seasons. Kyvat recently expressed his frustration over his relationship with Red Bull.

The 29-year-old admitted that he was promoted to Red Bull at a time when the team was struggling. Subsequently, Team Principal Christian Horner and Consultant Dr. Helmut Marko were unhappy. He said, “Christian [Horner] wasn’t happy. Helmut [Marko] wasn’t wasn’t happy. So they were difficult times at Red Bull.” Moreover, Kvyat lashed out at the team for using him during that period and then moving on shortly after.

He explained, “So to basically help them get through their sh*ttiest times and then they get rid of you… But whatever, it was still a great chapter.” Daniil admitted he learned a lot from being at Milton Keynes, including the politics of a big team. He said, “I saw how a top team works. The pressure is different there. Everything at stake is different and the politics are also very strong.”

Helmut Marko played a big role in Kvyat’s demotion

The Russian driver has worked closely with Marko since his days in junior categories. Kvyat mentioned that the Red Bull advisor can be stern when working with drivers. However, the decision to demote the 29-year-old remains a betrayal for the former Red Bull driver. He explained, “He’s a big boss. He can be tough. I always appreciate his honesty. Sometimes, of course, I felt a bit betrayed by him.”

Luckily, Kvyat stated that life goes on despite such incidents, and the two share decent relations currently. Daniil Kvyat said, “But, you know life happens. It’s normal. In the end, it’s also business, you know? Relationship is good, still to this day, and no big issues [now].”

After being sent back to Toro Rosso, Daniil Kvyat lost motivation and struggled to match teammate Carlos Sainz. The 29-year-old accepted his dismal performance as he couldn’t match a motivated Sainz. Daniil stated, “In 2017, it was difficult because I had zero motivation, and Carlos was extremely motivated. And then if you go with this mentality against a motivated Carlos, there’s no point.”

Thus, Daniil Kvyat has slammed the Milton Keynes team for its treatment of drivers. The 29-year-old expected more from the Austrian team after trying to help its prospects in 2015. However, it seems that the Russian driver has moved from this stage of his career and now looks toward his upcoming driver with Lamborghini in the World Endurance Championship
