“Don’t talk to me under braking,” Max Verstappen cuts into a frustrated figure

The Imola Grand Prix has panned out favourably in all of the session so far for Max Verstappen. The Red Bull driver with number 1 on his car managed to grab the pole position on Friday. Following up on Saturday in the Sprint, Max Verstappen lost the lead on the start of the sprint due to a gear sync issue on his car. Following up immediately he criticised the team on the radio by saying “The synchronization of first gear is truly exceptional” in a sarcastic manner.
The Dutch driver, Max Verstappen claimed his maiden Formula 1 title in the 2021 season. The former season saw the Red Bull driver showing examples of aggressive and ruthless overtaking manoeuvres on track. Max Verstappen has often being criticised for such ruthless moves on the track and has notoriously associated his name with this. However, last time out in the Sprint, Max Verstappen was rather merciless on his team radio by passing rather ironic remarks to the Red Bull pit wall.
Red Bull driver, Max Verstappen Recouping his 2022 Campaign

Max Verstappen losing his pole position on the start to Charles Leclerc had to switch to being the hunter, rather than being hunted. During his quest of catching Charles Leclerc and reclaiming his lead position for the Sunday Race, he rather made snarky comments to the Red Bull team wall. Max Verstappen in frustration said on the radio that “For years we have always carried the same problems with us” , “Don’t talk to me” and “Don’t talk to me under braking”.
The Red Bull pit wall who were helping out Max Verstappen in his pursuit of reclaiming his P1 position, took this quite literally. The situation went as far ahead as, Max Verstappen’s race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase not congratulating the driver even after the chequered flag dropped. The radio exchange between the driver and Red Bull pit wall signified this.
Verstappen : “It’s over, isn’t it?”
Horner : “It’s over, well done, pole position for tomorrow” .
Verstappen : “Great, I didn’t hear anything and so I didn’t know if it was actually over.”
Lambiase : “Yes it’s over, well done friend” .
Verstappen : “I complicated things at the start, but then the pace was good” .
Lambiase : “Yes you had a minor degradation, great job” .
Verstappen : “But where were you? Did you leave the wall? ”
We have seen enough examples of Max Verstappen being ruthless when it comes to his position being under threat. However, his frustrations might also be a consequence of poor start to the season as per his standards with a fast car under him. The Red Bull team with Max Verstappen are pushing all out this weekend to recover the points they have lost and take the fight to Ferrari in the 2022 season.
