Drive to Survive‘s fifth season is now streaming. The latest season of the popular Netflix docuseries delves into the F1 circus during the 2022 season. As always, the show showcases the drama in the paddock throughout the year. Additionally, fans also witness some hilarious from behind-the-scenes footages. One such amusing incident happened when George Russell showcased a present from his teammate on camera.
During the second episode of the fifth season, Russell gets ready in front of the Netflix crew in a hotel room. The 25-year-old surprises the viewers as he unveils a pair of underpants printed with the British flag. The British driver clarifies this to be a gift from his teammate and 7-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton. George Russell further explains the story behind this hilarious present.
George Russell tells the viewers that his 38-year-old teammate had once told him about bringing a present. Subsequently, Hamilton gave Russell this rather ‘patriotic’ underwear. George said, “Lewis said, ‘I got you a present.'” The 24-year-old then shows off the underwear to the camera. It can be speculated that the 7-time world champion wanted his teammate to have pride in their home country of the United Kingdom.

However, it turns out that Hamilton went one step further. The British driver gave such underwear as a present to all the team members at Mercedes. George Russell revealed, “He got a pair for everyone in the team.” Certainly, a rather thoughtful gift by the British driver for his team based in Brackley. Although, the Silver Arrows might be confused to have union-jack printed underwear in the German manufacturer’s team.
This instance shows the humorous side of Lewis Hamilton. The 38-year-old is often seen as an icon who strives to motivate people in achieving their goals. Hamilton is also vocal about trying to improve himself on multiple parameters continuously. As such, this light-hearted endeavor by the British driver shows a lesser-known side of the 7-time world champion to the show‘s audience and of course, George Russell.
Thus, Drive to Survive viewers were treated to a rather peculiar story at Mercedes. Perhaps, not many would have imagined Lewis Hamilton gifting George Russell a pair of underpants, let alone to the whole team. Certainly, most fans would have had a good laugh seeing this scene on the show, as it added some humor to a concerning situation at Mercedes.
