Ducati’s Pecco Bagnaia reveals the reason behind MotoGP races being “less intense”

Ducati’s Pecco Bagnaia had a jolly good time in Austria as he went on to dominate throughout the race weekend. The reigning MotoGP world champion bagged a double victory in Austria. Having qualified on pole position, Bagnaia went on to win the sprint race on Sunday along with sunday’s main Grand Prix. He further went on to increase his championship lead after his triple triumph at the Red Bull Ring.

During both the races last weekend, Brad Binder was constantly challenging the Ducati rider during the early stages but was unable to beat the Italian.  Pecco Bagnaia went on to lead every lap in both the sprint and the main race showcasing a dominant run from the Ducati rider. However, he admitted that he was troubled by front tyre pressures even though he was never behind any other rider.

In an interview, Pecco Bagnaia explained how this is an underlying issue. “For sure, the pressure makes the race a bit less intense because if you overtake as soon as you arrive to the guys in front of you then it’s ok,” he said. “But if you’re already two or three laps behind then you start to struggle a lot and you have to close a bit to be back again,” the Ducati rider continued.

Ducati’s Pecco Bagnaia was already leading the championship coming into the race weekend. After winning the sprint and the main race, his points tally has added up to 251. With Jorge Martin being the second place runner with 189 points, Pecco’s lead has been extended to 62 points. With the current form that Ducati and Pecco are in, it doesn’t look likely that there will be a change in the top of the standings for the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, Pecco’s title rival, Marco Bezzecchi has slotted himself in P3 in the standings being just 6 points away from P2. The Italian rider has the opportunity to join Pramac Racing for 2024 and race on the latest version of the Ducati for a fair shot at the title. However, it seems like Marco has already made his decision and it will be interesting to see what it is.
