Red Bull Racing showcased one of the most dominant performances ever in the history of Formula One. The Austrian topped the constructor’s championship with an astonishing total of 860 points by winning 21 out of the 22 races from Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. However, the Dutch GP Sporting Director Jan Lammers raised questions over the dominance of Red Bull in this season.
Jan Lammers commented on the form of the Red Bulls in 2023. The Dutch GP Sporting Director exclaimed that there was much less dominance than what was visible to the viewers. Additionally, Lammers recalled the bad stint at the Singapore GP where Milton Keynes failed to secure victory which cost the team a perfect run in the season. The former Dutch driver termed the Singapore GP as a ‘bad race’ for Red Bull.
I think there is much less dominance than it may seem, The Singapore Grand Prix showed that Red Bull can also be vulnerable. With the bad races [like Singapore] you win or lose championships, and Red Bull had few bad races.Lammers told racingnews365.com.
Max Verstappen heavily outshone his teammate Sergio Perez this year. Lammers was not hesitant to share his piece of mind over this. The 67-year-old pointed out that Verstappen’s dominance was reliant on the competition behind him. Jan Lammers reckoned that if the reigning world champion was not present in the picture, a normal championship would have been a lot closer.
Max Verstappen’s dominance also has to do with the competition behind Max. Take him away for a moment and you look at a top driver like Sergio Perez, and it shows what a normal championship would have looked like. The difference between Verstappen and Perez is the difference in driving.
Jan Lammers asserted that Max Verstappen had to work for it all
After single-handedly scoring 575 points for the team, Max Verstappen deserved all the applause from Lammers. The former F1 driver claimed that Verstappen was an example of such a driver who juiced his car to the limit to maximize performance and results. Moreover, Jan Lammers added that all things seemed to work out towards the end for Verstappen.
However, there were moments when winning a race was relatively easier for the three-time world champion. Even Lammers resonated with these instances. The 67-year-old further recognized that despite the ease in racing, Verstappen still had to work for it all as he put forth the most dominant performance in the history of Formula 1.
After almost a decade of Mercedes’ dominance, seeing the British team quickly rise to succession is something refreshing. As the team prepares itself over the winter break, the Red Bull crew has showcased optimism over the winning chances for the next season as they aim to somewhat replicate the season of 2023.
