Oscar Piastri‘s strong F1 start with McLaren in 2023 shined after the upgrades brought to Silverstone. A remarkable fourth place in the British GP could have been third without a Safety Car. In Hungary, he surged to second but minor damage dropped him back. Piastri’s potential marks him as one to watch for a bright F1 future. So much so that former F1 driver Eddie Jordan claims he could have a shot with Red Bull.

Eddie Jordan suggested that it would not be unexpected to see a vacancy at Red Bull, possibly in the same position once held by Piastri’s manager and former Red Bull driver Mark Webber. Additionally, he hinted that Oscar Piastri might be officially revealed as a Red Bull driver in the future.

“Do not be surprised if there’s a seat available at Red Bull, of course where Mark used to be, don’t be surprised if he [Piastri] is named in front of the public eye in the future,” said Eddie Jordan.

At the outset of the season, McLaren’s car was initially vying for lower positions. However, with each race, their performance noticeably improved, and at Silverstone, they emerged as the swiftest team behind Red Bull. Their excellence continued in Hungary, where Lando Norris secured an impressive second consecutive podium. The stark contrast from the beginning of the 2023 season is truly remarkable.

In the same interview with Talksport, Eddie Jordan further praised the young McLaren rookie. He cautioned to be mindful of Piastri’s future in Formula One, as he believed in his extraordinary talent. Jordan expressed being greatly impressed by the young driver, considering him one of the contenders to challenge Max Verstappen in the coming years.

“Be careful where he’s going to go because I think there is big star quality in there, I’m actually blown away with this young kid, so he’d be one of the drivers I’d be looking at to challenge Max in the future,” he continued.

After an abysmal start to the 2023 season, McLaren’s sudden upturn in form has surprised many. After two consecutive weekends of brilliance, McLaren will look forward to the upcoming Belgium Grand Prix. An impressive showing at Sunday’s Hungarian GP puts the Woking team in P5 in the constructors’ championship ahead of rivals Alpine.
