The world of F1 has been revolving around the controversies taking place at Red Bull this year. Despite all the drama, the drivers of the Milton-Keynes-based team and VCARB have remained focused on performing on the track. However, things don’t seem to be going in favor of Daniel Ricciardo, as he had a horrendous weekend last time around in Saudi Arabia. This has led former team owner, Eddie Jordan, to give a damning reality check to the Australian.

Daniel Ricciardo returned to the F1 grid last year at the Hungarian GP in Red Bull‘s sister team. The Aussie started his expedition with an ambition to make it back to Milton Keynes. Despite Ricciardo envisaging a return to the Austrian outfit, the last two races of the 2024 F1 season have not been any good for him.

Eddie Jordan recently dwelled on Ricciardo’s tricky situation and said,

He's a magical guy to have in the team, but that doesn't give you the right to be a driver. So, maybe he needs a result more than anyone else, and he needs to find calm, otherwise he will be replaced.
Eddie Jordan said on the Formula For Success podcast

The Irish elaborated that Ricciardo has a charm in the paddock. However, this reason alone cannot save the VCARB driver from getting axed, like all drivers in the sport, he has to perform. Moreover, the 34-year-old could be axed in a similar fashion as he was in 2022 by McLaren.

Helmut Marko gives an ultimatum to Daniel Ricciardo

Ricciardo was expected to be the lead driver in VCARB this year. However, the season for the Aussie started in a challenging way. With a row of poor performances, Helmut Marko has given a wake-up call to him.

The 80-year-old veteran of the sport has indicated that 2024 is an immensely crucial year for both the VCARB drivers.

There’s a lot at stake this season for both Yuki and Daniel. Yuki’s qualifying performance was very good and Ricciardo has to come up with something soon.
Helmut Marko said in an interview with Speedweek

The attitude of the paddock has shifted considerably in the past year or so. Ricciardo was brought into the Red Bull sister team in a bid to solve the leadership crisis at VCARB. Subsequently, aiming for a prestigious seat at the Austrian giant.

However, Yuki Tsunoda had Ricciardo’s number in the Saudi Arabian GP. Keeping in view everything that has been discussed, the upcoming Australian GP weekend will be the perfect opportunity for the Honey Badger to finally kick his 2024 campaign into gear. Several eyes will be on the homeboy in Melbourne.
