Emerson Fittipaldi predicts Ferrari to designate Charles Leclerc or Carlos Sainz as its number 1 in the near future

After going through a rough phase for a couple of years, Ferrari have made a comeback as their drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are 1st and 3rd in the drivers championship respectively. Even Ferrari has a big 39 point lead in the constructors championship. With 3 races down, Ferrari have made a commanding start to the season and would be looking forward to maintaining this form.

Ferrari’s usual tactic involves deciding upon a first driver and then the second driver always provides support to him but this year, we haven’t seen a difference between Leclerc and Sainz. The two time World Champion, Emerson Fittipaldi feels that Ferrari will be designating the number 1 and 2 positions to both the drivers in the coming 3-4 weekends.

Fittipaldi feels there is no number 1 driver currently but eventually after 3-4 races, the one leading the championship will automatically become their first choice. Ferrari look strong right now and they are the favourites to win the championship. They must ensure that an internal ‘on track’ battle between their both drivers, should not cost them valuable points. Thus, the number 1 driver spot is inevitable.

Charles Leclerc or Carlos Sainz?

In an interview, Fittipaldi said, “To me, Ferrari has the best package of the year. They look reliable, they look fast in different conditions, in different tracks. They got around the new rules better than anybody else, in my opinion. Very powerful engine, good mechanical grip, good downforce, good aerodynamic grip,” as per gpfans.

Ferrari must be very happy with where they are right now but they also must be very careful as anything can happen. Mercedes and Red Bull are looking forward to making upgrades and obviously their target is Ferrari. A mishap and cause a big slip-up for Ferrari.
